Thomas Jefferson built a beautiful home near Lynchburg, Virginia. In 1773, Thomas and Martha Jefferson inherited Poplar Forest – a 4,819-acre plantation – from Martha’s father. In 1806, Jefferson began construction on the home he designed, took up residency until 1809, and made frequent visits to the property until 1828. The structure is true to Jeffersonian architecture, closely resembling traits from Jefferson’s Monticello in nearby Charlottesville.
